Promotion items are not necessarily items that you throw away once you leave the trade show; they are items that publicize your company. If you cannot think of anything, then choosing something for the general populace may be the best way to spend your money. In my business, I choose to give books. Did they hope for the faiths they formed or inspired to break into quarreling factions who claim their interpretation of the holy words is the one and only interpretation? Did they anticipate that their disciples would hate, judge and kill in their name and the name of God? Did they know that the words of their holy books would be interpreted, in spite of the many contradictions, as the literal truth and not, perhaps, as the fables and lessons they were intended to be? Most faiths today have their moderates and those who would be considered fundamentalists. Several years ago I had a good friend who was a fundamentalist Christian. I admired, and even envied, his total faith and commitment. There was no doubt in his mind that the universe has been created in six days, the world is about six thousand years old, evolution is a disproved theory, and the only hope for salvation of all of mankind was to accept Jesus Christ according to a specific formula. In his mind, other Christian denominations were weak, some, like the Lutherans and Episcopaleans, were marginal, and others, such as the Catholics and Mormons, were no more than cults doomed to everlasting hell. Although he believed that all of the Bible was Gods words, he also believed that certain sections and verses were more important than others, which seemed a bit arrogant to me. Selected holy verses have long been used by clergy to justify slavery, manifest destiny, fascism, and terrorism. Christianity can look back on its own Inquisitions, Crusades and the brutality of the Reformation period to see the perils in selective interpretation. The Jihadists and Islamists, especially since 9/11, have demonstrated to the world the dangers of selective and rigid interpretation, and yet the response among some elements of Christianity and Judaism has been more selective and rigid interpretation on their part. When there is such rigidity and superiority, anger festers on all sides, we have the makings of accelerating spirals of hate. It becomes easy to rationalize terrorist acts, including the martyrdom of suicide bombings, when ones absolute and indisputable beliefs appear threatened and one knows that the non-believers are doomed anyway. Some, in fact, thrive upon enduring and escalating chaos and war and pray against any efforts toward peace. Many fundamentalist faiths are only a few steps away from the slippery slope and spiral of hatred, paranoia and revenge. The challenge for the religious moderate, then, is to stand back and consider not so much the meaning of every word and verse, but the overall intent and purpose of the prophets and authors. By Vivian Gordon Sadly enough, there are many false teachings out in the world today. If you aren’t hearing the voice of the Master, you will fall by the wayside and won’t even know it is happening. People are told that all they have to do is say a simple prayer and they will acquire eternal life and that will be the end of it. Sadly, this is not all there is to a true conversion. Today’s theology revolves around “sinsationalism”. Many people are being taught how to accept their sins and work around them because God still loves them. It’s a “sin management” program that most people are being fed because their leaders don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable about their sins. They think it’s not their responsibility to address them. But, this is very wrong according to God’s Word. If any teacher causes one person’s soul to be lost, their blood will be on their hands. Anyone who takes the responsibility of leading souls to Christ must first study His Word and be eager to show himself approved. He must be a workman who rightly divides the Word and is not at any time ashamed of speaking it’s truth, whether or not it may offend anyone. This is how God convicts us. We should be made aware of our sins and then repent for them immediately. His Word must be skillfully handled with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the gospel truth. (Read 2 Tim. 2:15) In other words, there should be no compromise! Jesus said He would rather you be hot or cold because if you are found to be lukewarm, He will spit you out. To truly be saved is not something that we decide when we feel like it. It’s important to be able to discern between God’s tug in our heart or if it’s the emotional surge going on around us that makes us think we are in control. First of all, God’s word says in order to be truly saved we must believe with all our heart that Christ died for all our sins and freely confess it. This confession will result in a life changing attitude. Deliberate sin will be impossible. You can’t confess Christ to be your Lord and Savior if you’re still living in the world and not being a hearer and doer of His Word. It’s easy to tell a true born again person by the fruit they produce. “Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Rom.10:9 (Amplified) “For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms his salvation.” Rom.10:10 (Amplified) God puts this into our hearts first, it’s not our decision. He has chosen us before the creation of the world. He chooses us first, and then we come nigh to Him for our eternal life. It’s not anything we can do on our own that will make us worthy to come to Him. So, just because you may be a nice person, don’t think that will get your foot in the door. It’s takes a true confession that confirms your salvation. “The Scripture says, No man who believes in Him (who adheres to, relies on, and trusts in) Him will (ever) be put to shame or be disappointed.” Rom.10:11 (Amplified) With a true heart and lip confession that Christ died for your sins and rose again and has given you eternal life, it will be impossible to live in the world and continue to sin. He will make it so that you will not ever be made to feel ashamed. If you are convicted of your sins, this means that God is speaking to you and He is trying to point you in the right direction. You will not be able to live with the feeling of disappointing Him. And you won’t care what anyone else may think about you. Jesus prayed for you and me to His heavenly Father. His love for us reaches right into our hearts, even though sometimes we feel out of reach from Him. But, Jesus said this: “And this is eternal life; (it means) to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and (likewise) to know Him, Jesus (as the) Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.” John 17:3 (Amplified) Once you are truly saved, God will make it known to you that you belong to Him and you will want to please Him by becoming set apart for His works in you. Understand that not everyone is a child of God’s. It’s true that the earth and everything in it do belong to Him, but for those who do not believe in Him and His Son Christ are considered to be in the world which belongs to the enemy better known as Satan. Christ is coming back only for God’s children. Not eveyone has this inheritance. It’s important to know that you are truly one of His own. Christ continued to pray this; “I am praying for them, I am not praying (requesting) for the world, but for those You have given Me, for they belong to You.” John 17:9 (Amplified) It’s a beautiful concept to know that God and Christ are One in the same. God sent Christ to earth so that we may truly know the living God. Once we come to God through Christ covered under His shed blood, then we are also considered to be one in Christ. We are one of His sheep! He knows us by name. God gave us to Christ. I think this is such a beautiful realization of being truly saved. It’s normal to still doubt this, but God has His ways of removing that doubt when we become mature in our faith. So don’t trust your salvation to any feelings of doubt. You just need to get stronger in His Word to override the enemy. “And (now) I am no more in the world, but these are (still) in the world, and I am coming to You, Holy Father, keep in Your Name (in the knowledge of Yourself) those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We (are one.)” John 17:11 (Amplified) This makes it no secret that God chose us first, He gave us to His Son Christ. And it’s something else to realize that once God calls us to salvation, we are never lost. He has His hand on us through every hardship and dispairing pain we will ever go through. “While I was with them, I kept and preserved them in Your Name (in the knowledge of worship of You.) Those You have given Me I guarded and protected, and not one of them has perished or is lost except the son of perdition (Judas Iscariot-the one who is now doomed to destruction, destined to be lost), that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” John 17:12 (Amplified) “I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.” John 17:15 (Amplified) Our life will not be an easy one, but when we have true faith and believe in our relationship with God the Father, and Jesus Christ the Son, we will forever be protected from the evil one who wants nothing more than to strike us down. In knowing that we know that we know that we know who we are in Christ, we can also be assured of this when Christ prayed for us before His Father; “That they all may be one, (just) as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one (even) as We are One.” John 17:21-22 (Amplified) God loves us so much that He gave us right of inheritance into His heavenly kingdom along with His own Son Jesus Christ. This is how you know if you are truly saved. Christ lives in you and you will hunger for more of His truth. Once you hear His word, you will have the faith to believe in it. “So faith comes by hearing (what is told), and what is heard comes by the preaching (of the message that came from the lips) of Christ (the Messiah Himself).” Rom. 10:17 (Amplified) When Christ sets up residency inside of you, you will no longer be able to live in this world as you once did. He will call you to study and fellowship on a deeper level. This will bring about your obedience to please Him and not yourself. People may even notice that you are not yourself anymore. This will be great cause for rejoicing! If you’re not sure of your salvation get alone with God and truly confess that He sent His Son Christ to pay your debt of sins and that He rose Him again to life and is now Lord and Savior of your life and you live to please only Him. Then if you have done this and are not ashamed of what you’ve done, then it’s essential that you continue to read His Word, study and meditate on it. Find a good spirit filled church and fellowship with other believers. Go to Bible studies, ask questions, and ask God to give you the wisdom to discern His truth in your life. They skillfully use words as tools to persuade us to do things. Like it or not, you need to adopt some of these tried and true approaches in your own marketing materials. Trust me, clients will not clamor for your services just because youre really good at what you do. Youve got to motivate and persuade your target audience to take action. By the way, these principles apply to all of your marketing tools: website, direct mail, brochures, flyers, newsletter, press releases, value-adding freebies such as checklists, etc. Bottom line: youve got to catch and hold your target audiences attention, if youre going to convince them youre the right solution to their problems. This is very how-to stuff, but stick with me. If no one reads your article or attends your presentation, it doesnt matter how brilliant your content is. So youve got to hook them with a WIIFM (Whats In It For Me?) title that gets their attention. Rules for Writing Good Titles: In a nutshell, its all about the WIIFM. Leads the reader into the article or talk (How 20 Managers Saved Two Hours a Day With These Time Management Techniques) Secrets from the Copywriting Pros for Compelling Titles: The following titling approaches are what the pros use that really work: 1. How-to titles: Start the title with the words How to or How (target audience), followed by a benefit. 2. X# of ways titles: Implies a system or process thats easy to master: Five Secrets for Improving Your Golf Game. 3. Contrarian Titles: Tongue in cheek: Ten Ways NOT to Attract New Clients. Shows you have a sense of humor. 4. Fun titles: An interesting or fun twist that is hard not to read: How a Graphic Artist Who Wouldnt Network and Couldnt Make Cold Calls Found All the Business She Needed Using Her Dalmatian. 5. The word these: The word these draws you into the article or talk to find out more: Do you Make These Mistakes in English? Remove the word these and it loses its impact! 6. Since women typically do the lions share of child care, husbands need to make sure their wives are well taken care of. One way to do this is to Always Greet Your Wife First. Husbands, if you want your wife to adore you, develop this simple habit. This minor adjustment will make her feel special and will let her know she is your priority. Heres how this works: Husbands, which family member generally gets to you first when you arrive home each day from work? Your children, right? They are so excited to see you. They practically knock you down with their enthusiasm, this is almost impossible to resist. Most husbands greet the children first, but for the sake of the children as well as your wife, do not do this. Always Greet Your Wife First. Before I tell you why, let me give the husbands a little inside information that I have picked up as a marriage and family therapist. Your wife typically hides from you when youre expected to arrive home. She wants you to be interested enough and care enough to come find her. If you think about it isnt she normally in her closet or in the laundry room when you get home? Do not stop and read the mail. Do not sit in your recliner. Go find her. Instead of stopping to hug the children, say to them, Yall help me find Momma. They will gladly help and you rush to where your wife is. Greet her with enthusiasm. Think about how your children and your dog greet you. Show about the same degree of enthusiasm. Look into her eyes. Embrace her. Tell her how glad ou are to see her. This kind of greeting shows her honor. It automatically conveys a message that she is special to you and she is your priority. It isnt hard to do but its impact will blow her doors off. After you have greeted her enthusiastically, greet your children with a similar response. The reason behind this relates to a matter of developing respect from your children for their mother. In most homes, the father can tell the children to do something and the children do it immediately. However, their mother can tell the children to do the same thing and the children give her a hard timed about it. Greeting your wife first helps squash this behavior. When you greet your children first, then your wife, you are giving the children the message that they are more important than their Momma. They start believing that their daddy holds them in greater esteem than he does their Momma. Thus, they do not have to do what she says. However, when you greet their Momma first, then they see that you hold her in greater esteem and they will do the same. They will then be quicker to do what she says. Someone will greet them first when they reach adulthood but for now, honor their Momma. Try this out today. You will feel better about yourself as a husband.
